Guess I should write and blog and stuff?

the phone horoscope app vibes don’t lie
it knows almost everything about me
but I’m not sure if that’s because
it is mapping the movements of the stars and planets
to my time and location of birth
or mapping the movements of my eyes
and the taps of my fingers on this phone
but either way it is occasionally helpful
or at least affirming and sycophantic

What lives within me, though?

In the worst possible pretending-I’m-a-14-year-old-again way?

That was always the point, though
of this site design
recreating the blue
Wordperfect screen
on the old 286 in the basement
where I would type poems
and sometimes print them out dot matrix
and call up the library catalog via the modem
and then type-navigate through the text menu
to telnet to other library catalogs in other cities
and I found something I think was called the Denver Free Net
where there were message boards for music and different topics
and the main thing I remember was that I argued with some old guy
saying that Pearl Jam was better than Santana
because in 1994 I was obsessed with Pearl Jam
and all I knew of Santana
was “Black Magic Woman” and “Oye Como Va”
that I associated with the less good classic rock station
that played the more ‘AM Gold’ adjacent 70s and 80s rock songs
not the harder, weirder stuff like Hendrix and Zeppelin
not even the Beatles and the Stones
no psych freak outs no prog rock no 8 minute tracks
and I thought those songs were corny and meaningless
and not so angsty and “real” like Pearl Jam
and of course I didn’t recognize
that Santana also could be harder and weirder
and that even “Black Magic Woman”
has a wild extended minute-plus afro-latin-jazz-psych-blues intro
and several guitar solos and psychy-proggy freak out sections
between the corny singing and songwriting
and I didn’t understand the nuances of the latin percussion
or the innovation of fusing it with rock and all these other genres
or have any ear for what Santana was doing back then
and I was basically an ignorant, anonymous 14-year-old
and the actually good classic rock station
that did play all the weird and hard stuff
and probably did play Santana
was shut down around that time
and when they started broadcasting again
they were a country station called K-BULL
and then a few years later Santana had a hit with the Matchbox 20 guy
who I guess I thought was earnest and angsty and real at first
but not when he was singing smooth with Santana
and I’d long forgotten about the Denver Free Net.
The alternative station from the 90s
that played Pearl Jam and later Matchbox 20
but probably didn’t play the Santana song with Rob Thomas
is still on the air and last I checked
still plays the same 1990s music
the heart in a blender song,
the world is a vampire least interesting most irritating smashing pumpkins song,
and so is basically the current less good classic rock station,
and now I’d agree with that old guy on the Denver Free Net
that Santana, especially back in the 60s and 70s,
were a much more musically interesting and innovative band
than Pearl Jam ever was
but in the 21st century
neither artist/group has been all that interesting to me

I’ve turned off the syndicating of this website
where I would try to have it automatically repost things
to micro.blog and bluesky and threads and supposedly the fediverse
but the automated posts rarely came through as I intended
and I’m not an active participant in any of those places anyway

but I’m going to start posting stuff here again
and if there is some weirdo lurk-following me via RSS
(I am a weirdo who lurk-follows people via RSS)
they may see these posts
and if someone visits this site
they may see these posts
but that’s about it
except probably some crawlers trawling for more training content

and at some point I may start syndicating again
or posting on some other networks
once I have some new things here
and once I have set up things how I like them again
and maybe have posted a backlog of things
that I didn’t post at the right time
because now that this isn’t feeding to anywhere else
I can add and edit and retcon
and no one that I know of
will be notified
except maybe you
and the other web crawlers
and the Santana fan from Denver
that I argued with in 1994
if he is even still alive
he seemed like a really old guy
but I was in eighth grade

now I’m a really old guy
on the internet
and Pearl Jam are really old guys
who play really boring music now
and not even hits, either
but I don’t have commenting set up here
so I guess
no one can argue with me
